the 666 meme

Suomenlinna Ferry

When you think of the number 666 who do you think of? Apparently, when George Ruiz thinks of that number, I’m the first person that comes to mind! me and 5 other schmoes who have been suckered into participating in another blogging meme. I guess it’s a good excuse to dust off the ol’ “Write Post” in wordpress. Hello, old friend. It’s been a while.

Here are the rules:

Post the 6th picture on the 6th page of your Flickr account, then tag six more schmoes to do the same.

Well if it’s schmoes you want, it’s schmoes you get. What’re you gonna do:
1. Verdell Wilson @MissRFTC
2. Sarah Szalavitz @DearSarah
3. Drew Olanoff @DrewOlanoff
4. Tantek Çelik @t
5. Violet Blue @violetblue

???

My photo (above) is from a recent trip I took to Helsinki, Finland courtesy of Nokia. I was on a ferry headed to Suomenlinna, an island converted into a giant fortress. Tv was my lovely guide. It was freezing.

Flickr video!

by Micki Krimmel on April 8, 2008 · 3 comments

The internet is abuzz with news of the new video feature on Flickr. Of course, everyone immediately began to try it out. I’m enjoying the crap out of watching my friends’ short little videos! And that, my friends, is exactly why this will be a huge success for Flickr. I have a ton of funny little videos that I would love to share with my friends but that just don’t fit into The Mickipedia Show. So they never really make it into my blip.tv or my youtube accounts. These videos fit in perfectly with how I use Flickr. I use Flickr every day to share photos with my friends. Sure, other people can see them but Flickr is designed in such a way that the primary conversation happens between people who know each other.

When I first read about the 90 second limit on videos for Flickr, I thought wow, that’s kinda limiting. How can I upload my episodes of The Mickipedia Show? Well, now that I’ve played with it for a few minutes, I know that’s just not what it’s for. The Mickipedia Show doesn’t fit into how I use Flickr with my friends. We check in on each other in little bits throughout the day. Open Flickr and see if anyone has posted anything new. A 90 second video of something silly or that compliments photos from an event? That fits right into my current Flickr experience. A webisode, not so much.

So bravo, Flickr. You’ve managed to make yourself even more useful and you will remain one of the few windows I always have open in my browser.

Now let’s test out the new Flickr video embed (hee hee).
