What’s next?

by Micki Krimmel on April 17, 2007 · 30 comments

Big changes are afoot in the Mickiverse. I wanted to do a quick post here to update y’all on the goings on. I’ve recently decided to leave my position as Director of Community at Revver. It’s been an amazing year and I just want to thank everyone for their constant support and friendship. I’m so honored to be a part of the growing videoblogging community and I couldn’t be more excited about where all this new media business is headed.

Revver is truly a groundbreaking online video-sharing platform that rewards content-creators by giving them a stake in the profits. The first site of its kind to share revenue with its users, Revver shifted the conversation in the industry, pioneering creator rights and open media sharing. I’m really proud to have been a part of that and I wish Revver all the best as they move forward.

So what’s next for me? Well, I plan to do some consulting for companies working in new media and online community. I’m currently exploring a few projects with real potential to create change in the media industry and to draw attention to important social issues. As the lines between “Old” and “New” media blur, now is an exciting time for the industry and consulting will allow me to participate in a broader way. If you have any thoughts, suggestions, or know of a fun project or two, feel free to contact me.

I’m also going to spend some quality time working on my own projects. I’m in the very early phases of planning a multimedia project about atheism as a positive force for social change. I’ll also be working more on The Mickipedia Show and some other online shows. I’m really lucky to have so many smart and talented friends to collaborate with.

Oh, and I’m also taking some time off. I recently realized that aside from the occasional “vacation” interrupted by conference calls and emails, I’ve never actually taken a break from work. I’m thinking this may just be the ideal time to turn it all off for a bit. A back-packing trip through South America perhaps? If you have any pointers, let me know because I’m hoping to head out mid-May.

Developing our own Standards

January 5, 2007

Cross-posted from the Revver blog:

These are exciting times indeed as we build the new culture in the online video space. It’s really up to the creators and the burgeoning video-blogging community to define our own rules of engagement and create a set of standards for participation. How do we want people to interact with our [...]

My trip to the East Coast to see my family was interrupted (thankfully) with a night on the town with some hilarious and raucous video bloggers and my guest appearance on the Best Damn Tech Show, Period. Thanks to Drew Olanoff, Alex and Felicia from The Daily Reel and Kevin Nalty (quite the [...]

Will it blend? That is the question.

December 21, 2006

The answer is almost always a resounding Yes! Tom Dickson will introduce you to the wonders of the BlendTec Total Blender at WillItBlend.com and become your homeboy in the process. Barbies, iPods, toy cars, Christmas dinners, oysters – heck, you can even suggest your own concoction. And George will gladly give it a try. [...]

I sat down for an intense interview with Chou Chou from Rabbit Bites. Bunnies may look all cute and cuddly but they sure do ask the tough questions. This is the first episode in their new interview series and it’s pretty great if I do say so myself. And Buns and Chou Chou [...]

Chris Pirillo is either the smartest guy around or the most annoying. Either way, he’s inspired this smart and annoying holiday effort now taken up by videoblog gurus Kevin Nalty and Steve Garfield.

It’s the day when even non-jas get to pretend to be ninjas. Revver is proudly sponsoring the Ask a Ninja DVD release party on Ninja Day. You should so totally go. Everyone in my family is getting a Worldchanging book and a Ninja DVD for Xmas. You hear that, familiy? No surprises.
